Here is my theory on battle royal players of a game. They get superb invested in say, fortnite or Apex. They spend a lot of money on all that jazz and skins and passes. Then they see a new one is getting a great deal of attention and believe that OSRS gold makes their attempts in the other matches significantly less precious in case RuneScape isnt as popular. Its quite childish.
If you play RS3 you're going to be perplexed at first but as soon as you're in for about three days and you mess with your UI and the battle system you're going to be hooked because everything's new. Especially if you play by yourself or. It is possible to purchase gold basically in RuneScape but that does not affect you if you are eager to place the job in and earn money. RS3 is loved by me especially it was unexplored and because it's a terrain and many of it still is for me.
If you just want to jump in and proceed OSRS still has some fresh content too and is constantly updating but it's about the nostalgia for sure and simplicity. I don't understand, I enjoy exploring and the bossing mechanisms to RS3. OSRS has some bosses. I only started playing and there so much on display, and so much icons I don't even know exactly what to click I am still confused. Stick with it, adjust your UI as necessary. View a YouTube video on it even.
Just play both they all have their ups and downs but it's two matches for one subscription so just try both it will cost you exactly the same and you will come across that suits one of the best that way. In terms of overall gameplay: extremely. In terms of starting out and getting a sense for RuneScape for a week or two, and with some fun: not at all. Definitely try f2p out first and see what's up. In osrs and both RS3 there are several weeks of content. I would recommend to work throughout the quests that are f2p. The runescape wiki contains guides.
As far as osrs and to some lesser extent RS3, it's a good time to train a few fundamental skills, stick around lumby and find some woodcutting levels on reg, oak, willow burning them after OSRS Money. 50 firemaking is needed for wintertodt. Better Axes can be purchased in the axes of Bob in lumbridge. There are several members quests which will speed up early levels exponentially. They are pog, if RS3 do the daily challenges. Unlock lobestones in RS3, or get levels for teleports in osrs. I would recommend staying f2p for weekly or two (depending how much you play) or until you start getting locked behind content. No point getting membership right away as most of the game is material.
